Clear information before you instruct.

Devol Legal Limited provides specialist consultancy and advisory services. The practice is barrister-led. This page distinguishes the company’s role from the professional status of the individual barrister and explains instruction, pricing and complaints.

Devol Legal Limited is the company through which consultancy and advisory services are provided. The scope, provider and regulatory basis of each instruction are confirmed in writing before work begins.

Professional status

Lee Vallender was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2005 at Lincoln’s Inn and holds a current practising certificate.

The company and the instruction

Devol Legal Limited provides consultancy and advisory services. Before instruction, clients receive written terms identifying the person responsible for the work, the scope of service, the fee basis and the applicable regulatory position. Where another route to legal advice or representation is required, that will be explained before the instruction is accepted.

Who may instruct

Local authorities, government bodies, NHS organisations, regulated professionals and other public-sector clients may contact Devol Legal to discuss a matter. Whether an instruction can be accepted, and on what basis, depends on the nature of the work and the client’s status.

Pricing models

The most commonly used models are fixed fees for a defined scope, hourly or day rates for advisory support, and project-based fees for transformation or implementation work. VAT is added where applicable. A quotation is provided once sufficient information is available.

Timescales

Timescales depend on urgency, complexity, document volume, stakeholder availability, the need for external evidence and whether the work includes implementation. The proposed timetable, outputs and key assumptions are confirmed at the outset.

Complaints procedure

A complaint about service should first be made in writing to [email protected], setting out the matter, the concern and the outcome sought. Receipt will be acknowledged and the complaint reviewed fairly and independently so far as the structure of the practice permits. A final response will be provided as soon as reasonably practicable and within eight weeks.

If the complaint is not resolved to your satisfaction within eight weeks, or you remain dissatisfied with the final response, you may be entitled to refer it to the Legal Ombudsman. Generally, a complaint must be referred within one year of the act or omission complained of, or within one year of when you became aware of it, and within six months of the final response.
